Welcome to the American Immigrant wiki!

Create an immigrant character and use journal postings to let us read about your character - and what life was like as an immigrant to the United States.

How To Add Your Entries

  • Type your journal entry in another word processing document like Microsoft Word. This lets you spell check your work and save it.
  • Use Firefox instead of another web browser to open the wiki. Firefox allows you to use “Visual Editing” instead of “Text Editing.” Visual editing simply makes for easier editing and image uploading. If you're not using Firefox or Internet Explorer you can still enter the text and photo, just use the "text editor" commands.
  • Then, use the toolbar on the left to navigate to each of the three journal entry pages: The Trip to America; Processing Into America; and Politics, Economics, and Society.
  • Click on the "Edit this Page" button in the upper right corner.
  • Scroll down to the last student entry and put yours below it. Copy and paste your journal entries from your document onto the correct pages.
  • Upload the image you've chosen using the "Insert Images and Files" icon above if you're using visual editor or the tag if you're using text editor.
  • Sign off your journal entries with your character's name.
  • Insert a solid line above and below your entry to set it off from other students' entries.
  • Click on the "Save" button in the upper right corner.

Reminder

You may NOT edit any journal entries other than your own. The space managers (teacher) can track the changes made to the site including which changes were made by which members, and when they were made.
